Art Workshop updates

A quick note to let you all know about a change in my teaching schedule... I will be teaching 3 different classes  at the Frenzy Stamper in Scottsdale Arizona on April 3, 4 & 5.  I am so excited to be going back, Debbie is so much fun & her store is one of the best!

On my way, I will be stopping at the lovely Rebecca's place to teach a 2 day vintage metal deck class in Prescott Arizona.
I hear that this is filling up fast, so if you want to reserve a space, please contact Rebecca soon!

The 3 day workshop at Carol Parks studio has been moved to weekend of Sept. 11th.

One more workshop note, there are only 2 spots left in the 2 day Jesse Reno workshop coming up on March 22-23, so if you want to join us, please send me an email.
Alrightee, my work is done here for today, have a great weekend everyone!

On a lighter note-

New batch of birds that I just finished.

Never pay someone to show your art & belief in what you do

Found this video on one of my Yahoo groups this AM, & although this guy is a bit out there & I don't quite agree with his parasite theory, I think it's a great message that everyone should keep in mind... I have always believed this to be true.

Here's the deal- most businesses have to take out a business loan, purchase merchandise with that money & eventually they may or may not sell it for a profit.
Most galleries have their merchandise given to them for free (on consignment) & then sell that for a profit- there is no risk-if it doesn't sell, just give it back to the artist & find someone else!
Most galleries will justify this by citing overhead, advertising & leasing expenses, but don't all business have those same expenses- I mean the ones who actually have to take a risk & pay for their inventory??
I have a hard enough time with that whole concept, I do it, because it is the only option for me as an artist.  But to pay someone on top of all of that to sell my work?
I DON'T THINK SO!
My intention really isn't to mock people who make a living by charging artists' to show their work, I just want to bring attention to this & hopefully to get you to think about what you are doing before you pay someone to sell your work.
Phew, that felt good, that has been a huge pet peeve of mine for years now & watching that video got me all riled up!
END OF RANT....moving on...

The bottom line is this...
If you can't find someone to believe in your work, start by believing in it yourself!
That has been my single most valuable lesson in persuing this path, that no one is going to believe me or in my work until I do. I can finally say (just for today, anyway) that all that matters is whether I like & believe in my work!
This doesn't mean that I don't feel afraid or insecure at times, but I know deep down, without a doubt that I am on the right path, & if people don't believe in me, or "get" my work, I'm really OK with that.
I know that my work can be a bit out there, & it certainly is not for everyone....but I don't care anymore, the point is to keep doing what I love, & if I fall out of love with it, move on to something new.
After all, it's really not the destination, but the journey!

Sunday flea market finds

It's been ages since I've been to the flea market so I got up early this AM & went.  It felt so good to be back in junkin' mode & it was so beautiful out, almost 70, it feels like spring is finally here.

Taos

More birthday pics

Best Birthday EVER!

I've had some pretty crappy birthdays, but this one made up for all of them!

I took the train up to Santa Fe to meet a friend at the train station.  From there, we drove up to Taos, did a bit of junking & ended up at Bluefish.....Warning warning, danger Will Rodgers...if you're a woman & have never seen Bluefish clothing, I am not responsible for your life after you visit this site- proceed with extreme caution!
Bluefish clothes are the most awesome, fun, arty clothes that ever existed.  The company was started by a woman named Jennifer Barclay & her story has always inspired me, what an amazing success story she has, & what an incredible example of making a living doing what you are most passionate about.

Jennifer just happened to be at the store yesterday & after learning that it was my birthday, she gifted me w/ 2 pieces of Bluefish!  I have never met this woman...WHO DOES THAT?  I was so floored, I couldn't even speak (or if I did, it made absolutely no sense!)  I still don't even know what to say, I am absolutely blown away, & trying to figure out how to pass on that RAK.

Anyway, after that we had a wonderful lunch at the Taos Inn where the waiter made me the strongest margarita that I have ever had in my life!  (Lesson #8964, don't EVER drink a margarita in the middle of the day)!  Actually, I already learned that awhile back, but since it was my birthday I thought I'd try it again!  Bad idea, don't remember much of the trip home, other than smiling all the way home on the train & fearing that people would think I was crazy....
Anyway, really, this was the best birthday ever, & thank you Myra for spending it with me & making it so special!

Happy VD everyone!

Ok, anyone who knows me knows that I passionately hate Valentine's day...along with every other over rated, over commercialized holiday.

But for some reason this year, I have this overwhelming urge to sprinkle everyone that I know with pink heart poop...OMG, I'm even wearing RED today, I never wear red, what the hell is happening to me?

I love love love to get art in the mail, & look what came today!

This is from Kecia, I love this piece!

Spring fever at the dog park

It's been so beautiful here, 60 plus degrees, t-shirt weather!

Spring is my favorite time of year, if it weren't for allergies, it would be perfect & I would never get anything done.
